Madden Movie Circling Even More Big Names, Including John Mulaney As Key EA Executive

A movie about the late football legend John Madden, who is also the namesake of EA’s popular video game franchise, is now in the works with Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage playing the title role. The movie may be adding to its cast, with John Mulaney, Kathryn Hahn, and Sienna Miller in talks for roles, according to Deadline.

According to the report, Mulaney will play EA founder Trip Hawkins, who was instrumental in helping launch the now-juggernaut Madden series. Hahn will reportedly portray Madden’s wife, Virginia. Miller is tipped for the role of the late Raiders owner Al Davis’ wife, Carol. As reported previously, Oscar-winner Christian Bale will play Davis.

Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell is signed on to direct the movie, which is in the works for Amazon MGM Studios and will presumably come to Prime Video. Russell also wrote the script.

Deadline said production on the Madden movie is expected to begin in May in Atlanta. A release date has not been announced.

John Madden only had a relatively short stint in the NFL as the Raiders’ head coach from 1969 to 1978, which included seven division titles and a Super Bowl win. After retiring from coaching, Madden went on to become the most famous broadcaster in the NFL, as well as a key figure behind the Madden NFL video game franchise, which continues even after his death in 2021.

As for the Madden video game series, the next entry is expected to be released in August. We don’t know much about it, but it will feature some kind of Lowe’s branding.
