Darkest Dungeon II Standard Edition
Darkest Dungeon II is a follow-up to Red Hook Studio’s acclaimed dungeon-crawling RPG, Darkest Dungeon, and though it retains the first game’s signature comic book-inspired art style and grim atmosphere, it makes big changes to the gameplay formula–pivoting away from old-school dungeon crawling and settlement building to a roguelike where players assemble a party of adventurers and set off on a deadly road trip throughout a dark fantasy world. Along the way, players will encounter various randomized events as they try to survive their journey, most notably tactical turn-based battles.
The sequel also retains the unique Stress Meter from the first game, wherein party members are affected by the things they witness during their journey, and can become afflicted with debilitating status effects. It’s a tough game, so if you pick up the new Anniversary Edition later this year, be sure to check out GameSpot’s Darkest Dungeon II guides for tips on how to survive.
