Nintendo has announced a new series of user icons that will roll out in three waves, running from May 20 through June 10. These icons feature images of classic Nintendo consoles and controllers, so if you’re a fan of retro-themed gaming hardware, you’ll want to check these out. Obviously, these don’t offer any gameplay or subscription benefits whatsoever, but we just think they’re neat.
To acquire these icons, you’ll need to be a Nintendo Switch Online member, and you can redeem any My Nintendo Platinum Points for these icons during the limited time they are made available. As a reminder, Platinum Points can be earned by completing tasks related to Nintendo’s mobile games and services, like signing up for a Nintendo Newsletter or reaching certain objectives in games like Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes.
A Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership is required for the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube icons. In total, there’ll be 10 icons to collect, and the first wave is already available.

The launch date for the Switch 2 is drawing close, so grabbing a new profile icon and equipping it could make for a nice way to kick off the next generation of Nintendo gaming. Nintendo is aiming to ensure that supply meets demand, and it has reportedly contracted Samsung to produce the custom chips necessary for its new console. One of the big games arriving on launch day is Mario Kart World, as it’ll be available as part of a special Switch 2 bundle.
More details on the racing game were revealed recently, as its developer explained how development on it started in 2017 and was originally meant to launch for the Switch. The developer also spoke about how the game’s title reflected a decision to push the franchise to the next level.
