The Legend of Zelda Collector’s Chess Set Now Available To Preorder

The Legend of Zelda collectibles can be quite pricy due to the popularity of the series, but right now, you can score dozens of TLOZ minifigures and give your brain a workout with this deal. Priced at only $45, The Legend of Zelda Collector’s Edition Chess Set combines the classic game franchise with one of the oldest tabletop games in existence. Not only is this a great spin on chess, but this set also makes for a very fancy decoration in your parlor, and it’ll be released later this month.

This particular set pits various heroes of Hyrule against Ganondorf and his forces. Link and his allies are presented as gold chess pieces–with Link serving as the king–while Ganondorf opposes him with his army of Deku scrubs, phantoms, and Iron Knuckles, all presented as black pieces on the chessboard. This isn’t the first time The Legend of Zelda has received a chess set. GameStop had an exclusive The Legend of Zelda Collector’s Edition Chess Set that routinely sells for high prices on reseller markets these days.

In case this sells out, there is another Nintendo option for chess fans in the form of Super Mario Chess for $35 at Walmart or $37.38 at Amazon. While it’s an older set, you’re still getting 32 hand-painted playing pieces of fan-favorite characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser.

On the frontlines, the pawns are presented as gold coins for the Mushroom Kingdom side, while Bowser’s disposable units are all Koopa shells. The nice thing about this set is that it comes with a compact case, so you can easily take it on the road with you or store it when it’s not in use.

For something a little bit different, there’s also The Legend of Zelda Monopoly. Amazon is currently selling the collector’s edition of this board game for $99 (was $110), and as you’d expect, it’s Monopoly with a Zelda spin. This has actually been out of print for a while now, so once existing stock is gone, it won’t be coming back. The game pieces ion this version are all based on iconic weapons and symbols, like Link’s shield, the Ocarina of Time, and the Triforce.

Lastly, you can battle for the fate of Middle-earth with a Lord of the Rings chess set. Available for $45, you can choose to command the armies of good with pieces led by Galadriel, Aragorn, Frodo, and Gandalf the Grey, or if you’re feeling evil, you can unleash the forces of Sauron, who is allied with Gollum, the Nazgul, and Saruman on the chessboard.
