Iconic Narrator Of Dark Souls 1 and 3 Has Passed Away

Pik-Sen Lim, the narrator of the opening cinematics for Dark Souls and Dark Souls III, has passed away. Known for her appearances in British television series in addition to her role in Dark Souls, she was 80 years old.

Lim’s role as the Dark Souls narrator is iconic in the gaming community. With an ethereal and ominous intonation, Lim introduced players to the enigmatic Dark Souls lore and set the tone for the creepiness of the game’s universe. While American audiences likely most associate Lim with Dark Souls, she had a storied career that spanned five decades. She gained fame in the United Kingdom for her role in the Doctor Who serial Mind of Evil, which originally broadcast in 1971; she is also remembered for her role in the British military drama Spearhead. Primarily known for television acting, Lim had a few notable roles in film, including in the 2011 comedy Johnny English Reborn.

Lim was born in 1944 in Penang, now a Malaysian state, during Japan’s wartime occupation of the country. Lim moved to London to pursue an education in theater when she was 16. Lim’s daughter, Sara Houghton, is also an actress who has appeared in other Doctor Who serials.
