Cyberpunk 2077’s Big New 2.3 Update Delayed

Cyberpunk 2077’s next big update, 2.3, is not going to launch on time. Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that the studio needs “some more time to make sure we’re happy with it.” It was previously set to launch on June 26 but has been delayed indefinitely.

The developer also teased that update 2.3 is aiming to have a scope around the same as the 2.2 update. That’s saying something, as the 2.2 update–released in December 2024–was a huge one. “We appreciate your patience!” the developer said.

Most people thought CD Projekt Red was finished supporting Cyberpunk 2077 and shifting its teams to Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4, but in early June, the Polish studio confirmed the 2.3 update. As of yet, however, there is no word on what’s included in the 2.3 update.

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.2 update added more cars, more instances of Johnny Silverhand showing up, an overhaul to the photo mode, upgraded character customization, and lots of secrets that CD Projekt didn’t reveal and left for players to discover on their own.

Cyberpunk 2077 launched in December 2020 in a rough state, but that didn’t stop the game from selling 13.7 million copies in just a few weeks to become instantly one of the best-selling RPGs in history. CD Projekt Red patched and improved the experience over the years, culminating in the 2.0 update that served as re-launch of sorts for the game. The Phantom Liberty expansion starring Idris Elba came out in September 2023, and the game has now sold more than 30 million copies.

A sequel, Cyberpunk 2, is now in development, though the majority of CD Projekt Red’s staffers are focused on The Witcher 4 at the time being.

Most recently, CD Projekt Red launched Cyberpunk 2077 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Getting the game to run on Nintendo’s console wasn’t as challenging as the studio had anticipated. Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be the best-selling Switch 2 game at launch not made by Nintendo, according to a report.
