Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode for Red Dead Redemption II, just got a big update that adds a series of “Strange Tales from the West” missions, including ones where you fight zombies and weird little robot guys.
The “Strange Tales of the Plague” mission has players fighting against “shambling undead” who have been affected by a mysterious malady infecting the people of Armadillo. Players must take them down and retrieve their corpses and return them for scientific research to find out what happened.

The “Strange Tales of Modern Science” mission, meanwhile, has players investigating a nearby “man of science” who claims he created artificial life near Braithwaite Manor. “Bring the strange experiment to life by discovering its secrets and destroying any automata that put up a fight,” reads a line from the mission’s description.
Then there is the “Strange Tales of The Bayou” mission that has players seeking “something unholy” in the swamps of Lagras. Finally, the “Strange Tales of the Wilderness” mission involves meeting up with a scientist who is conducting “strange research” on people in Tall Trees. “When the operation goes sideways, you’ll need to use your survival skills to find weapons, craft items, and hunt for food, all while tracking down the scientist and his captors,” Rockstar said.
These new missions pay out 3X gold, RDO$, and XP through August 4.
Red Dead Online did not become the kind of phenomenon that GTA Online did for GTA 5, with fans saying Rockstar did not support the online mode as much as they would have liked to see. This newest update is the biggest one in some time.
In other news, it’s been reported that Red Dead Redemption II could be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, along with ports of the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game was originally released in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One before landing on PC in 2019. It’s one of the most successful video games of all time, selling 74 million copies to rank as the No. 7 best-selling game of all time.
Rockstar’s next new release is GTA 6, which comes out on May 26, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
