New Criterion Collection 4K Remaster Of Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon Is 50% Off, Releases July 8

Stanley Kubrick fans can save big on Criterion’s 4K UHD remaster of Barry Lyndon, one of the iconic director’s best films, ahead of Prime Day 2025. The 4K restoration of the historical drama doesn’t release until this Tuesday, July 8, but a limited-time deal at Amazon drops the price from $50 to $25. Barry Lyndon is one of many Criterion Collection 4K Blu-rays featured in the ongoing 50% off movie sale. While the annual sale often includes new and recently released films, preorders aren’t always eligible for the discount.

Unsurprisingly, Barry Lyndon has vaulted up Amazon’s bestseller charts. At the time of writing, the retailer estimates orders placed now won’t arrive until July 22. With a two-week wait time and the current order volume, it wouldn’t be surprising if Amazon stopped taking preorders soon. If you’re interested in adding Barry Lyndon to your collection at this price, it’d be wise to secure a copy prior to launch.

Barry Lyndon is based on William Makepeace Thackeray’s 1844 novel titled The Luck of Barry Lyndon. The film and the book follows a conman who pursues an aristocratic life by marrying a wealthy widow. Kubrick’s adaptation is just over three hours and could aptly be described as a slow burn. If you like historical dramas, though, Barry Lyndon is filled with compelling characters and excellent cinematography–it won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography as well as three other categories.

Several other Stanley Kubrick films are in The Criterion Collection, but Barry Lyndon is the first to get a 4K Blu-ray release. You can save 50% on standard Blu-ray editions of classic Kubrick films, including Dr. Strangelove and The Killing. The original Blu-ray release of Barry Lyndon is also 50% off on its own and is part of last year’s CC40 40-Film Box Set.
