Earlier this week, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema shared some intentionally cheesy Johnny Cage movie posters to promote Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel to the 2021 reboot movie. But the wait to see Mortal Kombat 2’s first trailer is almost over, because it’s going to drop tomorrow morning.
Warner Bros. YouTube page is currently hosting a “kountdown” to debut the Mortal Kombat 2 trailer on Thursday, July 17 at 8:05 AM PT, which works out to 11:05 AM ET. Karl Urban is one of the most notable new additions to the cast as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Tati Gabrielle as Jade.
The first movie introduced a new character, Cole Young (Lewis Tan), who served as a focal point for the film. Tan is reprising his role in the sequel, but it’s unclear if Cole will once again be in the leading role. Several cast members will also make their return, including Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.
Despite their apparent deaths in the first film, Josh Lawson and Max Huang will be back as Kano and Kung Lao, respectively. Damon Herriman–who voiced Kabal in the first film–will portray the sorcerer Quan Chi, while Joe Taslim’s Sub-Zero/Bi-Han will appear as Noob Saibot in the movie.
Mortal Kombat 2 will hit theaters on October 24, 2025. But fans of the franchise’s earliest games–which appear to have influenced the movie–will be able to play Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection later this year. That “kompilation” will include the first four Mortal Kombat games, including console and handheld ports.
