Epic is trying something new with Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 by offering one of the new battle pass skins for free to all players. But the freebie isn’t just some Fortnite guy–it’s the UNSC Spartan from Halo. If you’d like to unlock a free Halo skin in Fortnite for yourself, here’s how to do it.

Free Fortnite Halo skin

While every Fortnite battle pass has some items that can be unlocked without purchasing the pass, it’s always been accessories that they offered for free, like gliders and emotes. The skins themselves on the battle pass have always been locked behind the purchase. But the UNSC Spartan, which will be Fortnite’s second free collaboration skin released in 2025 after Dupli-Kate from Invincible, will be the first free battle pass skin.

But the Spartan skin, which unlocks instantly when you buy the pass, will be a little bit different than other free battle pass items. To unlock the UNSC Spartan for free, you simply need to earn 100 levels during Chapter 6 Season 4. The season lasts three months, wrapping up on November 1, so you’ll have plenty of time to level up without sweating it. The free UNSC Spartan will be granted starting August 26 to those who earn it.

This giveaway is an evolution of Season 3’s early Superman unlock, which granted the David Corenswet Superman skin early to battle pass owners who purchased a bundle of 25 levels at the start of the season. The philosophical change here is that buying the battle pass itself grants early access to the free Spartan skin. And unlike the bundle of levels, buying the battle pass comes with lots of other stuff, like the Power Ranger and Megazord skins, so there will be reasons to buy it even if you’ve unlocked the Spartan skin for free already.
