Dragon Ball Super: Broly Steelbook Blu-Ray Edition Is Up For Preorder

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is getting a new collectible Blu-ray on November 4. Priced at $40, Dragon Ball Super: Broly is available to preorder now at Amazon and Crunchyroll. The 2018 anime film was the first Dragon Ball Super movie. Notably, series creator Akira Toriyama penned the screenplay and supervised the production of the well-received reimagining of Broly’s story from the trio of mid-’90s movies in the original film series.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is the second film in the modern Dragon Ball movie franchise with a Steelbook Edition. Fans can also get Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’s Steelbook Edition for $33.49. Unlike Broly, Super Hero is a 4K and 1080p Blu-ray combo pack.

First released in 2018, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, brought a fan-favorite character into the main timeline of the franchise. While Broly made a memorable appearance in his 1993 feature film debut and two 1994 movies–collected as the Broly Triple Feature on Blu-ray–these were essentially non-canon appearances.

The modern film integrated him into Dragon Ball properly, and surprisingly, it also helped evolve him into a sympathetic figure who had a tragic backstory. The movie also added Gogeta to official Dragon Ball continuity, and on a technical level, the action-packed animation is stunning.

Broly is part of Dragon Ball’s modern film series that kicked off in 2013 with Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. A second Dragon Ball Z film, Resurrection F, released in 2015 before the switch to Dragon Ball Super happened with Broly. The most recent entry in the series is Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The 2022 film is the only Dragon Ball movie with a 4K Blu-ray edition. As mentioned, Super Hero also has a 4K Steelbook Edition, so you can display it next to the new edition of Broly. A standard edition of Dragon Ball Super: Broly is also available for $26, in case you don’t care about steelbooks.

Dragon Ball Z Original Movies

Battle of Gods brought Dragon Ball’s animated film franchise back to theaters for the first time since 1996. The modern revival only has four animated films in 12 years, but the original decade-long run included a staggering 17 Dragon Ball films. Thankfully, all of the movies from the 1986-1996 original collection are available in physical format. The 13 Dragon Ball Z movies released from 1989-1995 are available as remastered Blu-ray Double Features, with the exception of Broly movies, which are collected as a Triple Feature.
