PlayStation Family App Gives Parents Control Over What Their Kids Play And Buy

Sony has announced a new PlayStation app, the PlayStation Family App, and it aims to help parents manage and monitor how their children play games on PlayStation.

The PlayStation Family App, which is free and is rolling out worldwide today on iOS and Android, connects to a PlayStation device in the house and parents can set up real-time notifications for when someone logs in. Parents can set time limits and then approve or deny extensions. The app also lets parents restrict which games their children can play.

Additionally, the app includes activity reports that track daily and weekly play sessions, and it also gives parents the ability to set spending limits from the PlayStation Store. The PlayStation Family App also allows parents to customize privacy settings and decide if their child can use social features or not.

“This is just the beginning with our new mobile app,” Sony said. “We’ll plan to continue adding enhancements to PlayStation Family app to evolve the experience over time.”

This app is coming to market as the popular game Roblox continues to face pressure from lawmakers over claims that the game does not do enough to protect children.

For its part, Microsoft launched its own Xbox Family Settings app more than five years ago, and it features much of the same functionality as the PlayStation Family app. The newly launched Switch 2, meanwhile, features extensive parental control options with its own dedicated app.

In other PlayStation news, the next PlayStation event is reportedly coming this month and could be a State of Play featuring new details on Wolverine.
