While Nintendo has already confirmed that some Switch 1 games will get free updates on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, a select few will be re-released as “Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.” These titles will boast more substantial enhancements that take advantage of the system’s new features and improved hardware, and players who already own the original Switch 1 version can easily upgrade to the new edition by purchasing an “upgrade pack” from the eShop.
While the exact enhancements will vary by the title, they include improved performance, increased resolution, and even some brand-new content, as is the case with Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Other titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (whose Switch 2 upgrades are free for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers) will even get a companion app that can help players locate shrines, share items, and other helpful functions.
Nintendo has already announced a handful of Switch 2 Edition games coming in the next few months, but there are many more Switch 1 games that would benefit from receiving a Switch 2 upgrade. Here are some Switch 2 Editions we hope to see.
