The recently released Middle-earth 6-Film Collection is on sale for an incredible price at Amazon and Walmart. Launched on March 18 with a rather expensive $210 MSRP, the massive 30-disc 4K Blu-ray box set is discounted to only $94.68 at both retailers. That’s a 55% discount and makes it substantially cheaper than the combined price of the 4K collections of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies.
The Middle-earth 6-Film Collection is particularly notable because it includes all six Peter Jackson adaptations–Theatrical and Extended Cuts–on 4K Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and Digital. This means you’ll get the audio commentaries not found in the 4K releases of the trilogies, as these special features are exclusive to the remastered 1080p Blu-ray editions.
$94.68 (was $210)
The Middle-earth 6-Film Collection is a massive 30-disc box set that includes 4K UHD and 1080p Blu-ray remasters of all six of Peter Jackson’s film adaptations of author J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy novels, including:
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
- The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Theatrical and Extended Cuts of each film are included, as well as commentary tracks for each Extended Edition on 1080p Blu-ray. As mentioned, since the the audio commentaries for the Extended Editions are only available on standard Blu-ray discs, you miss out on those extras with the other 4K collections.
The new collection also has a voucher to redeem digital versions of each movie. This is a nice perk, especially since the standalone LOTR and Hobbit Trilogy 4K box sets no longer include digital copies.
The Lord of the Rings on 4K Blu-ray
If you’re interested in rewatching The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, the 4K Blu-ray editions are sublime. The 1080p remasters are great as well, so it’s nice that they were included in The Middle-earth Collection. But the new box set is just one option for Tolkien fans who want to revisit Middle-earth.
Below, we’ve compiled a list of currently available Middle-earth movies on 4K Blu-ray, including the recently released anime The War of the Rohirrim. Collectors will want to pay special attention to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy’s reprinted Steelbook Box Set, which is on sale for the best price we can recall at Walmart. All editions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies listed below include theatrical and extended cuts.

You can grab The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on 4K for $69 at Amazon (was $90), or you can check out the Steelbook Edition shown above.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy’s Steelbook Limited Edition includes a trio of steelbooks and a cool display case. The reprint launched in March, and it likely won’t remain in stock for long thanks to a terrific deal you can snag at Walmart. Amazon sold out of its copies, but Walmart has The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook Edition in stock for $121.65 (was $170). Last year’s reprint sold out fast.
The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers are each receiving standalone 4K Steelbook Edition releases on May 27. Preorders are available at Amazon and Walmart. Fellowship previously released as a Walmart exclusive in January and sold out fairly quick.
Meanwhile, The Hobbit Trilogy on 4K Blu-ray is discounted to $50 (was $90) at Walmart. If you pick up The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Steelbook Edition, you could pair it with a matching Hobbit Trilogy Steelbook for $160.
