Diablo 4 sounds like a possibility on Nintendo Switch 2, though no promises are being made. Instead, Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson wants to take a wait-and-see approach with a port for Nintendo’s upcoming system, seeing how live-service games function on the platform.
Speaking with Gamertag Radio (spotted by VGC), Fergusson chatted about whether Diablo 4 could come to Switch 2, which has been rumored. “I think there’s opportunity there for sure,” said Fergusson. “I mean, we have Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: Resurrected already on the Switch, and with backwards compatibility, it’ll be playable on Switch 2.”
Fergusson added that “Switch 2 has the performance that can run a game like Diablo 4,” so technical prowess isn’t holding up a port. “I think the challenge is less around the hardware and just about how we… you know, live services on Switch have been a little bit challenging in the past,” he said.
That didn’t stop Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Overwatch 2 from arriving on Switch. In fact, Fortnite is getting a Switch 2 Edition at launch of the system on June 5. Preorders in the US will go live at midnight, with the hybrid console retailing for $450.
As for Diablo 4, it’s getting a Berserk crossover event that begins May 6. This will be the first time the action-RPG has received a non-Blizzard collaboration. The game will also see a reworked battle pass with the launch of Season 8 on April 29. Earlier this year, Fergusson stated that Diablo 4 will be around “for years,” so don’t hold your breath for a fifth entry in the series anytime soon.
