Borderlands 4 Release Date Moved Up

Gearbox has announced a change for Borderlands 4’s release date. But it’s not a delay. Instead, Borderlands 4 has shifted forward a few weeks and will now launch on September 12. It was previously set for release on September 23.

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford revealed this in a video–he deleted the video but the internet never forgets.

Also in the video, Pitchford reminded fans that a PlayStation State of Play event is coming this Spring that will have more information about Borderlands 4. This will be the biggest showcase for the game so far, Pitchford said. An exact date for the State of Play has not been confirmed yet, however.

Borderlands 4’s previous September 23 release date lined up with the launch-date for Bungie’s Marathon, but the games will no longer release on the same day.

Borderlands 4 is in development for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is a sequel to 2019’s Borderlands 3.

That game was 2K’s fastest-selling game of all time and has shipped more than 22 million copies. Borderlands 2, meanwhile, is 2K’s best-selling game ever with more than 30 million units sold. In total, the Borderlands franchise has sold more than 91 million units.
