Monster Hunter Wilds was released in February and it’s been a massive success so far, becoming the No. 1 best-selling game of the year in the US months ago. Now, another data point about the game’s success has come to light.
Circana’s Mat Piscatella said full-game dollar sales for Wilds are so high that had the game been released in 2024, it would rank as the No. 6 best-selling game of the year that year. For what it’s worth, Madden NFL 25 was the No. 6 best-selling game of 2024 in the US.

Now Playing: Monster Hunter Wilds Review
The success of Wilds helped lift Capcom to its eighth straight year of profit and 10th consecutive year of more than 10% operating income growth.
The game sold more than 8 million copies over its first three days, becoming Capcom’s fastest-selling game ever. It went on to sell 10 million copies in its first month.
It still has work to do to catch Monster Hunter World, though, which has sold 21 million+ copies and is Capcom’s best-selling game of all time globally.
Overall, the Monster Hunter franchise is the second-best-selling Capcom franchise of all time, with Resident Evil still holding the top spot.
“There are a few missteps along the way–of both an artistic and technical variety–but Wilds is another excellent entry in Capcom’s beloved series,” Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot’s Monster Hunter Wilds review.
