Netflix Is Turning This Popular Video Game Into A TV Series

Netflix has announced a new video game adaptation. The streaming giant is working with Supercell to produce a Clash of Clans animated TV series.

That’s all Netflix had to say about the show, but it comes after Supercell hired former Netflix executive Curtis Lelash to become its new head of film and TV. You can see a teaser image for the show below.

Clash of Clans debuted all the way back in 2012 and is one of the most popular and best-known mobile games ever. The game has players building a village and then defending it.

A number of spin-offs followed, including Clash Royale. The original game and Clash Royale remain quite popular, both ranking inside the top 35 most popular free games on iOS today.

Years ago, Supercell created a Super Bowl commercial starring Liam Neeson to promote Clash of Clans.

Supercell was acquired by Tencent in 2016 for $8.6 billion. It’s the No. 3 biggest video game acquisition of all time, only behind Take-Two’s purchase of Zynga for $12.7 billion and Microsoft’s buyout of Activision Blizzard for $75.4 billion.

Beyond the Clash of Clans show, Netflix is producing a number of other video game tie-ins, including a Gears of War movie and show and an Assassin’s Creed series.
