The Samsung Pro Plus is one of the best microSD cards for Steam Deck, and the 1TB model just hit a new all-time low price at Amazon. Released last year for $120, the 1TB model is discounted to only $70. The $50 discount doesn’t have a listed end date, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this sell out. The previous all-time low was $80. Due to Amazon’s deal, the Pro Plus 1TB is currently costs the same as the slower Samsung 1TB Evo Select, a microSD card that released alongside the 1TB Pro Plus last year.
$70 (was $120) | Best price to date
The Pro Plus is one of the most popular microSD cards with a U3 rating (Ultra-High Speed Class 3). It’s one of the best options for expanding your Steam Deck’s storage space thanks to its speediness and reliability. It is rated for up to 180MB/s read speeds and 130MB/s write speeds.
The Pro Plus and the Evo Select are great cards for creators, too. Both models offer fast enough read and write speeds for 4K video. Both models come with SD card adapters.
If the Pro Plus deal sells out, the Evo Select is still a solid pick for Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch owners, especially since the latest model has 160MB/s transfer speeds, placing it not far behind the Pro Plus. Both cards are capable of storing and booting games on either handheld as well as various Windows-based handhelds and retro devices.
Note: Samsung’s Pro Plus and Evo Select models are not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 only supports microSD Express cards, which is significantly faster and, as a result, pricier. Walmart recently restocked Samsung’s 256GB microSD Express Card for Nintendo Switch 2 for $59.
When it comes to storage devices, a big part of why it’s generally advisable to opt for established brands like SanDisk and Samsung is reliability over long periods of time. No one likes to lose their data. Admittedly, if you’re only storing video games on your microSD, this isn’t nearly as big of a deal–unless the corrupted data contains save files you spent dozens or hundreds of hours building. Backing up saves is always a good idea.
With Amazon’s current deals, the Samsung cards are noticeably cheaper than each model’s SanDisk counterpart. The SanDisk Ultra 1TB–the most popular microSD card–is on sale for $80 and offers read and transfer speeds up to 150MB/s–10MB/s slower than the Evo Select. The SanDisk Extreme 1TB, on the other hand, is 10MB/s faster than the Pro Plus, as offers up to 190MB/s read speeds. That said, the Extreme 1TB is $99 at the moment.
But while we’d typically recommend Samsung or SanDisk for data storage, there are other good options for expanding your gaming handheld’s storage space, including the Lexar Play 1TB with 205MB/s read speeds for only $80. Another solid option is TeamGroup’s A2 Pro 1TB microSD for $65.
