Today marks the first day of MagicCon Vegas, the latest celebration of all things Magic: The Gathering. Continuing with MagicCon tradition, an hour-long panel gave us a glimpse at some “elements” of Magic’s future, including the first-ever card for an upcoming crossover set.
Avatar Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender was revealed during the panel, a double-sided card that also seems to have revealed what each element-bending effect will do in the upcoming set. Based on the back side of the card, Aang, Master of Elements, bending may look as follows:
- Air: life gain
- Water: card draw
- Fire: burn
- Earth: +1/+1 counters
Also revealed during the panel were multiple cards from Edge of Eternities, the next in-universe Magic expansion set to launch in August. Previews for the space opera inspired set included a returning villain in Tezzeret, as well as new faces in Sami, Ship’s Engineer and Tannuk, Memorial Ensign. The panel also confirmed the return of Shock Lands to the Standard format, as Stomping Ground, Breeding Pool, Godless Shrine, Sacred Foundry, and Watery Grave were also shown. We also got to see art from MTG’s return to Lorwyn, Lorwyn Eclipsed, but no card text was revealed.
Edge of Eternities is set to release August 1, with Avatar: The Last Airbender due to debut in Magic: The Gathering on November 21. Between those will be the Spider-Man expansion on September 26, with more news on that set expected at San Diego Comic-Con next month.
