How To Increase Carry Weight In Death Stranding 2

Are you thinking of increasing your carry weight in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? Sam’s capacity to lug around a ton of loot becomes integral throughout the campaign. That’s because you’re expected to bring a bunch of items to countless settlements. As such, the more you’re able to lift–without being overencumbered–makes most missions a breeze.

How to increase carry weight in Death Stranding 2

There are several ways to increase carry weight in the game, though the three most reliable methods involve:

  • Carrying items over a certain weight at great distances
  • Collecting Chiral Crystals
  • Adding Chiral Antigravity Devices to your backpack

Walking around while bearing a ton of weight

Yes, you can increase your carry weight in Death Stranding 2 just by roaming around while Sam bears a heavy load on his back. Although the process itself may seem arduous, it’s nonetheless a reliable way to improve Sam’s carry weight limit. If you’re able to lift tons of crates as you move from one facility to the next, then you should notice a few rank-ups eventually.

Note: We recommend unloading your backpack and using a strand (i.e. rope) to tie your crates. You need to keep your balance and shift your weight often, which means there’s a high chance that you might stumble. If your containers are tied together by a strand, then it might prevent them from falling, too.

Carry as much as you can, but be prepared for any accidental stumbles or falls.

What are the effects of Chiral Crystals?

Chiral Crystals are small jagged rocks with a yellowish glow. You’ll find them all over the world, often near tar pits or sites where you’ve defeated BTs. Try to scan your surroundings often with your Odradek so you can spot them while exploring. Note that it’s even possible to find extra Chiral Crystals if you shower in a private room. It’s like Sam’s washing off the gunk and dirt on his body, and out come a few resources.

Chiral Crystals have a couple of notable uses:

  • Chiral Crystals help improve your carrying capacity based on how many you’ve collected in bulk. For every 1,000 cg. you have on you, the overall load that Sam is carrying is reduced by 1 kg.
  • Chiral Crystals are also used as components when crafting certain items or when conducting repairs–i.e. machinery, devices, roads, and the like.

How to craft a Chiral Antigravity Device?

You can craft a Chiral Antigravity Device upon reaching Connection Level 2 with The Government, the first faction that you meet once you arrive in Australia:

  • Each item requires 100x Chiral Crystals, 60x Chemicals, and 80x Special Alloys.
  • Each Chiral Antigravity Device that’s attached to your backpack increases Sam’s load limit by 10 kg.
  • You can craft multiples of these, but you need to make sure that you have enough space on your backpack so you can attach them somewhere.
