Depending on which live-action Street Fighter movie you’ve seen, it’s either the best thing you’ve ever watched or so bad that you wonder how it got made. The 1994 adaptation is wonderfully cheesy and is still good for a laugh–“Quick, change the channel!”–while the 2009 movie is best described as 96 minutes of your life that you’ll never get back. Is the third time the charm for Capcom’s iconic fighting-game series on the big screen?
That remains to be seen, but one thing we do know is that it appears that development is starting to gather momentum now that the project has a director locked down and multiple actors attached to it. Considering the high bar set by other video game adaptations like Mortal Kombat and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the pressure is on for Street Fighter to rise to the occasion.
