NBA Star Luka Dončić Is Coming To Overwatch 2

Earlier this year, former Dallas Mavericks player Luka Dončić was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of a blockbuster deal. Now, Dončić has lined up a new deal of his own by guest starring in the Overwatch universe as his alter ego, Sharpshooter 77.

Blizzard has announced that Dončić’s presence in Overwatch 2 will be represented with a 77 loot box giveaway, a golden basketball weapon charm emblazoned with his jersey number, a spray, and a player title for Sharpshooter 77. Overwatch 2 players will also be able to play with some of Dončić’s different personas in special Stadium hero builds, including “Fadeaway Fan” Cassidy, “Luka Dunkcic Lúcio, and “Hooper Trooper” Zarya.

As an Overwatch 2 player, Blizzard notes that Dončić is a Grandmaster and ranked among the top 500 players in North America.

“Many have seen how competitive I am on the basketball court, but you may not know that I’m just as competitive when I’m playing Overwatch,” said Dončić in a statement. “I love this game, and am excited about this partnership. It’s special to be in the game in a way that other players can be part of.”

As part of the event, Blizzard will be running billboard ads for Dončić’s Overwatch 2 appearance in his former NBA city Dallas, and his current home in Los Angeles. Since Dončić’ is also playing for the Slovenian national team at EuroBasket in Katowice, Poland, the billboards will be featured there as well.

Overwatch 2 Season 18 launched this week, and it will eventually feature a collaboration with Persona 5. The game’s director, Aaron Keller, recently told GameSpot that he’d still love to do an Overwatch TV series in the future. But for now, there aren’t any firm plans for that.
