Thirty years ago this month, Sony brought the original PlayStation to North America and kicked off a new era in the console wars. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of that occasion, Sony has shared a video that plays up the nostalgia for anyone who recalls the iconic sounds that the PlayStation made when it was turned on.
Sony followed up on that video with a call for fans to share their PlayStation memories with the #PlayStation30Memories, some of which will be featured in a celebration video.

Late last year, Sony introduced 30th anniversary editions of PlayStation 5 Slim, PS5 Pro, and PS Portal, which were given PS1-style makeovers. Former PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan received his own PS1-style PlayStation 5 when he retired in 2023.
Earlier this week, Circana shared the best-selling games from the original PlayStation. Several of those titles remain popular decades later, including Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy 7, Resident Evil 2 and Tekken 3. GameSpot has also assembled its own choices for the top 20 PS1 games of all time, which includes a handful of selections that weren’t among the best-selling titles of that era.
